Biography

Carlos Murguia has been a (tenured) Associate Professor in Dynamics and Control at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), The Netherlands (2020-2024). He received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering specialized in Dynamical Systems and Control from TU/e in 2015. He has served as postdoctoral research fellow (2015–2019) at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (Singapore); the University of Melbourne (Australia); and the University of California (USA), Los Angeles. He has been a visiting scientist at Princeton University, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Texas at Dallas. In the last three years, Carlos has attracted more than a million Euros in funding for applied research from the European Commission, The Dutch Research Council, industrial partners in The Netherlands, and Eindhoven University of Technology. He has built a diverse research program publishing in top-tier systems and control engineering journals (IEEE and IFAC journals, all Q1, most D1, in SCIMAGO ranking), and presented his work at leading international conferences around the world (more than 70 journals/conferences to date). He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE); the IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS); and International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC). Carlos has more than fifteen years of experience dealing with the study, analysis, and design of dynamical and control systems for a diverse range of engineering applications — from robotic UAVs and manipulators for surgery to cooperative mobility, privacy in cloud-computing, and secure cyber-physical systems. His research revolves around control and information theory and physics-aware optimization and machine learning for cyber-physical systems safety, security, and privacy.
